What You’ll Need for Glitter Cocktails

You’ll need edible glitter to make these cocktails sparkle. It is a type of glitter that is safe for consumption and adds a fun touch to any cocktail.

Make sure you purchase only edible glitter that’s specifically labeled as food grade and has an ingredient list listed. There are several brands out there such as Brew Glitter or Snowy River Cocktail Glitters. Here are a few options that you can check out from Amazon:

    What is Edible Glitter?

Edible glitter (sometimes called edible dusts or luster dust)is a decorative food product that adds sparkle and shine to food, cocktails, soft drinks, tea, or whatever favorite drink you fancy. Unlike traditional glitter, which is made from plastic and can be harmful if ingested, edible glitter is made from food-safe ingredients such as gum arabic, aluminum silicate, food coloring, and sometimes sugar or starch.

It’s considered safe for consumption by the FDA and can be used to add a fun and festive touch to any food or drink item. You can check out this article from the FDA that explains how to tell if a glitter product is considered edible.

You can also use edible glitter gel icing located in the baking aisle of the grocery store. Sometimes you can find edible glitter spray that comes in spray pumps.

How to Mix Edible Glitter into a Cocktail

The most important thing to remember is a little goes a long way. To mix edible glitter into a cocktail, you can add it directly to the bottom of a cocktail glass before you pour in the cocktail, then stir. Or, you can add it to the cocktail shaker before shaking the cocktail.

You can also rim the cocktail glass with the edible shimmer dust by dipping the rim in simple syrup or honey and then dipping it into the shimmering powder.

    FAQ

Q: What is cocktail glitter made of?

Edible glitter is typically made from gum arabic, aluminum silicate, food coloring, and/or sometimes sugar or starch.

Q: How do you use glitter in cocktails?

To use glitter in cocktails, mix it by stirring or shaking it into a cocktail. Be careful not to add too much, as a little goes a long way. You can also rim the glass with edible glitter by dipping the rim in simple syrup or honey and then dipping it in glitter.

Keep in mind that glitter is heavier than liquid, so it may settle at the bottom of the drink over time. If this happens, simply give the drink a stir before serving.
