These IV Blood Bag Cocktails are the perfect creepy drink for Halloween parties and spooky season! When this cranberry lime margarita is added to a special drink bag, it mimics blood in an IV bag. It’s a 3 ingredient cocktail recipe that takes minimal time to make and will be your new favorite Halloween cocktail!

Filled blood bag cocktails on a tarnished silver platter.

If you like spooky Halloween cocktails, make sure to check out my other themed cocktails like the Syringe Jello Shots or color-changing Practical Magic Midnight Margaritas. You might also like my glittery and spooky Black Mojito or Black Magic Margaritas.

    Why You’ll Love This Recipe

Only 3 Ingredients – it’s the perfect quick drink to make with just three simple ingredients.

Perfect wow factor – the IV Blood Bag Cocktail is the easiest way to add a wow factor to your Halloween party.

Delicious – the combination of cranberry juice, lime, and tequila make for the most delicious cranberry lime margarita as the base of the blood bag drink. Removing the tequila for a non-alcoholic option is still super delicious for those that don’t drink.

    Supplies

First, you’ll need to buy a blood bag kit specifically made for cocktails or other drinks, such as the one pictured below.

    Ingredient Notes

Ingredients listed in text overlaid over a faded image of the Blood bag cocktails.

Cranberry juice cocktail – for this recipe it’s best to use the juice cocktail rather than the 100% cranberry juice. If you want to use 100% cranberry juice, you might need to add simple syrup or agave nectar to balance the extra sour flavor.

Blanco tequila – this is the clear tequila, sometimes it is labeled as “silver tequila”.

Lime juice – as with any cocktail, freshly squeezed juice is better than bottled. If you must use bottled, opt for 100% juice that is not from concentrate.

    Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1 showing adding the cranberry juice and tequila to a large drink pitcher.

Step 1: Add the cranberry juice cocktail and tequila to a large pitcher.

Step 2 showing adding the lime juice to the pitcher and adding the funnel to the end of the tubing.

Step 2: Add the lime juice to the pitcher and stir well. Attach the funnel included in your kit to the end of the plastic tubing. (If you don’t have a funnel, there might be a syringe included to fill up the bags).

Step 3 showing pouring the cocktail in the bag and sealing with plastic clamps.

Step 3: Carefully pour the drink through the funnel (or use the syringe) and fill the bags to your desired level. Slide the included clamp down the tubing and clamp tightly to seal off the bag.

Step 4 showing adding the stickers to the bags.

Step 4: Add the included blood type label stickers to the front of the bags. Chill until ready to serve.

    Expert Tips and Variations

    • Make sure to read the product description to ensure you are buying food-grade fake IV bags meant to be used for drinks.
    • Don’t forget to use the clips provided with the IV blood bag to prevent spillage.
    • If you’re not a fan of tequila, no worries. You can swap it out for vodka or white rum to make a Halloween punch that will suit your taste.
    • If you prefer sweet drinks, replace part of the lime juice with orange juice or orange liqueur for a sweeter, more citrusy flavor.

    FAQ

Where can I find fake IV blood bags for drinks?

Fake IV blood bags for drinks can be found online on websites like Amazon or party supply stores. Make sure you are buying food-grade bags meant for drinks.

Can I make this cocktail in advance?

Yes, you can make the IV Blood Bag Cocktails up to one day in advance. Make sure you store the bags with the tubing oriented upright to prevent spills in case the plastic clips fail or come undone.

What can you put in an IV drink bag for Halloween?

For Halloween, you can put various cocktails or mocktails in a blood cocktail bag. You can also try my Vampire’s Kiss Champagne Cocktail or any other red-colored juice, like plain pomegranate juice or fruit punch, for a non-alcoholic version.

If you don’t want to make a cocktail, you can also just use your favorite red wine to fill the bags. You can go for a neon green color and use my Midori Margarita, and call it “Alien Blood”. Be creative and have fun with it!

    Can I reuse the bags?

Fake IV bags used for cocktails or other beverages are made of food-grade plastic or silicone and are often designed to be reusable. However, their reusability will depend on the manufacturer, so make sure to check the description and instructions included in your kit.
