Servings 12 ounces (approx)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 bag Chai tea
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar

Instructions

  • Add the water to a small saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil, turn the heat to low, and add tea bag. Brew according to tea package's instructions (typically 5 minutes).
  • Remove the tea bag and add the brown sugar. Whisk until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  • Allow to cool completely and pour into an airtight container.

Notes

Tips:
  • Brew the tea exactly how the package directs - if you leave it too long, it can become bitter. I typically brew mine for 5 minutes.
  • Make sure to allow the syrup to cool completely to room temperature before bottling.
  • Add a splash of baking extract, such as anise, almond, or vanilla extract, for extra flavor.
  • For a more intense Chai flavor, add an extra tea bag or two to the mix.
