Refreshing Gin Mojito Recipe

Melissa
This Gin Mojito recipe is the perfect refreshing cocktail for warm weather, especially in the spring or summer. It’s a twist on the classic rum mojito made with fresh mint leaves and lime juice, but it uses gin instead of rum.

Ingredients

  • 2-4 leaves fresh mint
  • ¾ ounce simple syrup
  • 1 ½ ounces gin
  • ¾ ounce lime juice
  • Soda water to top
  • Fresh mint and/or lime slices for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • Add the mint leaves and simple syrup to a cocktail glass. Gently muddle the mint with the syrup.
  • Add ice, gin, and lime juice to the glass.
  • Top with soda water and gently stir, moving the spoon up and down to evenly distribute the ingredients.
  • Garnish with fresh mint and lime slices, if desired.

Notes

To serve 8:
  • 15-25 mint leaves
  • ¾ cup simple syrup
  • 1 ½ cups gin
  • ¾ cup lime juice
  • Soda water to top (about 2 cups)
  • Fresh mint and lime slices for garnish
Instructions for a batch:
  1. In a large pitcher, muddle the mint leaves with the simple syrup.
  2. Add gin, lime juice, and soda water to the pitcher and stir gently.
  3. Chill and then serve over ice. (Avoid adding ice directly to the pitcher so as not to dilute the drink.)

**If making ahead, leave out soda water until just prior to serving. Also, remove mint leaves from the pitcher after muddling and add back fresh leaves right before serving. (Leaving the mint in the pitcher for several hours may turn the cocktail bitter.) You can make up to 1 day in advance.

General tips
  • Save money and make your own simple syrup by combining equal parts sugar and water in a saucepan and heating until the sugar dissolves. Let it cool before using in your cocktail.
  • Adjust the sweetness or sourness of your gin mojito by adding more simple syrup or lime juice, respectively. Taste as you go to find your perfect balance.
