The Best Mashed Potato Recipe

This is the perfect mashed potato recipe and is exactly what you want in mashed potatoes - creamy with lots of flavor. They are a great option for a weeknight dinner or for the holidays!

This recipe calls for infusing the butter and milk with garlic and herbs. This adds lots of flavor but no extra time or effort.

Gather your ingredients

-Red Skin Potatoes -Butter –Milk –Garlic cloves –Fresh rosemary –Fresh sage –Salt and pepper

Boil the potatoes


Place potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add salt and bring to a boil. Simmer until potatoes are tender about 25-30 minutes.

Infuse the butter and milk


Meanwhile, heat butter, milk, garlic, and herbs in a small pot over low heat.

Mash the potatoes


Drain and mash potatoes while still hot. Strain the garlic and herbs out of the hot milk mixture. Add mixture to the potatoes and mash. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Tips for making ahead

You can make a ahead and refrigerate for up to 3 days.  When ready to reheat, place the bowl over a pot of simmering water on the stovetop, stirring occasionally.  If potatoes look dry, add more milk (about 1/2 cup or more) as needed until silky and warm.
