Kefir  Overnight Oats

These overnight oats are as delicious as they are nutritious. This recipe combines probiotic (healthy bacteria from the kefir) with prebiotic foods (fiber from the oats).

Probiotics and prebiotics work together for optimal digestion. The prebiotic fiber feeds the probiotic bacteria, which allows healthy bacteria to flourish.

Additional benefits of pre and probiotics is supporting a healthy immune system.  Prebiotic fibers are also helpful in blood sugar and cholesterol regulation.

What is kefir?

Kefir is a probiotic (healthy bacteria) drink that is essentially fermented milk. It is similar to a drinkable yogurt (which you can substitute if you have trouble finding kefir). However, kefir typically contains a lot more probiotics than yogurt.

In a jar or container with a lid, mix together all of the ingredients except for the toppings.

Refrigerate overnight (or at least a few hours), then serve cold with your favorite toppings.

Bonus tips -  I love using old jars that have lids to make the overnight oats portable to take on the go.  If you prefer warm or hot oats, you can heat up the oats in the microwave in the morning.
